What is Holistic Nutrition?
Holistic healthcare, functional medicine, integrative medicine—these are words I am sure you’ve heard once or twice in regards to health and wellness. What’s the big deal?
What is Holistic Nutrition?
Holistic means focusing on the whole, that all pieces are interconnected and they all need to be considered together. This is exactly how we look at our clients. For example, when someone comes with migraines or joint pain, we look at the gut, sleep, stress and diet to understand what the root cause could be to trigger the immune system to activate and what the body needs to bring it back to balance.
How is our care different?
We dedicate our time to uncover the best approach to your unique situation. Instead of a 15 minute annual visit, we will spend a few hours together each month. Our work together begins by having you complete a thorough intake form. We then spend 60-75 minutes discussing your intake. Here, we gather your health history, family health history, but also things you wouldn’t expect like what’s your favorite foods, who grocery shops in your home and what your eating habits were like as a child. We get uncomfortable and chat about bowels and sex. Every piece is part of the whole and for the body to be in balance, each piece needs to be working it’s best.
After this intake, we take the information, complete any additional follow-ups and draft a plan of recommendations for your care. We consider your goals and roadblocks to understand what the best next steps and then meet frequently for at least 12 weeks to fine tune our approach.
What’s expected of me?
This approach to healthcare doesn’t simply fix things overnight. We work on building habits and may need to use a few different approaches to understand what works best for you. There is no body that is the same as yours, so there’s no rulebook when it comes to our health. We ask that each client is open and willing to dedicate the time and effort, just as we promise to do.
What is your scope of practice?
As a certified nutrition specialist, we do not diagnose, prescribe, treat or cure any disease or illness. We are willing (and prefer!) to work with your physician to optimize and empower you to build a lifestyle to reach your goals. We work with a diagnosis or current treatment from a physician and provide you a lifestyle roadmap and support along the way.
Iuvo is to delight. We are founded on the belief that in everything we do, we are all craving happiness and joy, and feeling great in your body is the best way to achieve it.
